President-elect tells Fox News that his aides will decide what reporters have access to the press briefing room
He dropped plan to move the briefing room from its current 49-seat space in the West Wing to a larger space outside the White House
But he said there is not enough space for everyone so his administration will choose who gets access
Spokesman said Trump told him: ‘Fine, if they don’t want to do it, if they don’t want more folks, then we can cramp it into the little space that exists there’
Move is latest in saga of prickly relations between Trump transition and White House press corps, which currently controls who gets press passes for it

President-elect Donald Trump’s administration will not move press briefings out of the White House into a larger space but will choose the media representatives who go into it, he said during an interview on the Fox News Channel.

His spokesman told reporters hours later, however, that everything is subject to change as hundreds and hundreds of reporters clamor for the opportunity to cover the enigmatic incoming president.

Trump’s team had discussed moving news conferences out of the small West Wing briefing room to the Old Executive Office Building, which is part of the White House complex, incoming White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus said Sunday on ABC.

‘So we want to move it, because for whatever reason … we get a lot of people showing up for press conferences, et cetera, including briefings,’ trump said in a ‘Fox & Friends’ interview broadcast Wednesday. ‘And the room is too small.’
