PAKISTAN has successfully tested a submarine cruise missile capable of carrying nuclear warheads amid fears the world is gearing up for another war.

The country’s testing of a Babur-3 waterborne nuke comes amid heightening tensions between Pakistan and neighbouring rival, India.

But Islamabad insists its weapons testing, which follows additional nuke testing back in December, is just a “deterrence” measure.

Pakistan’s government military arm released a statement, which read: “The missile was fired from an underwater, mobile platform and hit its target with precise accuracy.

It added: “Pakistan eyes this hallmark development as a step toward reinforcing the policy of credible minimum deterrence.”

The testing of nuclear-capable submarines indicates Pakistan is eager to develop a full-scale weapons arsenal, which also includes air and missile-based warheads.

Pakistan’s military posturing comes just weeks after India tested a 50 tonne missile it has been developing for the past decade.

At the end of December, India fired Agni-V from a remote island with the missile landing near to Australian waters.

The missile is so powerful that it even has the capacity to reach Britain.
