Congress met Friday in a joint session to count the electoral votes and certify the results of the Electoral College
Trump prevailed with 304 electoral votes
Democrats had one last chance to try to muddy President-elect Donald Trump’s win by challenging the certification
Each time a Democrat rose to object, Biden, who presided over the session, gaveled them down, for failure to get a senator to cosponsor their objection, as required by law
Any objections would ultimately get voted down anyway in the GOP-controlled House and Senate anyway

Democrats were shut down in their final, futile attempt to protest President-elect Donald Trump’s electoral college win – and this time it was Vice President Joe Biden wielding procedure against them.

Congress met in a Joint Session Friday to certify the electoral college, which met in December in state capitols across the country.
‘It is over,’ Biden said at one point, after shutting down an array of Democrats who tried to force a debate on the certification of the vote.

Democrats used the often ceremonial meeting to voice a final round of protests about the bitter election, on a day when the winner, Trump, was meeting with top intelligence officials about Russian interference in the election.
