THE established political order came crashing to the ground in 2016 and this year will see the birth of a new order.

For the past five years, as Chairman of Britain’s oldest conservative think tank the Bow Group, I travelled up and down the country promoting conservative ideas like Brexit, nationhood, lower immigration and self reliance.

This left both me and the Bow Group at odds with most of the Westminster population. With a liberal at the helm of the Conservative Party, and the light of Thatcher ever dimming, conservatism was almost driven into the sea.

Eventually the upper echelons of the Conservative Party itself turned on the Bow Group as a last bastion with full force.

Then came 2016, and from the jaws of defeat conservatism is not only back, it’s back in power.

Whilst 2016 has been an extraordinary year, it would be foolish to call it a fluke or take it in isolation.

This has been a long time coming, we are seeing the bloom of a thousand flowers, but those flowers were planted and a long time ago and have been carefully watered.

The political establishment had become an island of its own, isolated, and the further their tiny nation drifted the more convinced they became that nothing else existed.
