Chicago’s homicides have increased by more than 50 per cent since last year, as at least 27 people were shot over the Christmas weekend.
Seven of those individuals were fatally shot within the last 48 hours, the Chicago Police Department (CPD) reported.
Officer Jose Estrada, a spokesman with the CPD told the New York Times on Sunday that the total number of homicides this year was 745, a 56 per cent increase from 476 around the same time last year.
