FURIOUS Americans have hit out at experts who have claimed a radioactive plume caused by Japan’s Fukushima nuclear disaster is “harmless”.

The radiation smog has travelled all the day to the United States following the meltdown, which was sparked by a massive tsunami caused by a 9.0-magnitude earthquake.

Since then, the whole Fukushima area has been a dangerous no-go zone.

Highly toxic Cesium-134 – the “fingerprint” of Fukushima – was found in Oregon, with fears raised it could enter the food chain via fish.

But experts have said the terrifying discovery should not worry people, saying the radiation levels are so low they don’t pose a threat to people’s health.

However, this assessment has now been slammed by people arguing there is no such thing as “safe” levels of radiation.

Radio host and author Thom Hartmann addressed the issue on his show, saying the Cesium-134 could cause people to develop cancer.

He said: “The cesium could cause no cancer, or it could cause cancer in the first cell it irradiates.

“To say that there is a safe level of radiation is frankly wrong. It’s just wrong.”
