Fighting has ended in the besieged city reclaimed by Syrian president Bashar al-Assad and ISIS militants face catastrophic defeat in Mosul.

But ideas that the wave of terror striking fear across Europe is about to come to an end have been rubbished by experts.

In fact, it’s only going to get worse.

Speaking exclusively to Daily Star Online, a top military expert believes ISIS attacks will increase in number – while a resurgent al-Qaida looks set to capitalise on the chaos.

Research fellow Kyle Orton said: “It’s a matter of when, not if, ISIS revive. They aren’t finished, not by any stretch.

“The big winner from all of this is al-Qaida because they fight in the trenches with the revolutionary forces.

“We offer them very little in support. As a result the country has fast become a cauldron of terror that will cause mayhem for at least another five years.

“Al-Qaida is in Syria for the long haul now. They’ve stopped external attacks for the moment but they will resume them and Europe is the obvious target.
