Merkel on a COLLISION course with Trump: Angela is ‘NOT HAPPY’ over TPP trade deal

ANGELA MERKEL stepped up her transatlantic tirade against Donald Trump today as she laid into the new US President over his stance on global free trade which has seen him pledge to scrap the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade deal.

The German leader risked further souring already fraught relations between Berlin and the new White House administration as she used her budget speech to launch a series of diplomatic barbs at the Republican.

She tore into Mr Trump’s announcement that he will withdraw the US from the controversial Transatlantic Pacific Partnership (TPP) deal on his first day in office in a move which effectively killed the EU’s hopes of striking a similar pact with Washington.

It is now widely considered that negotiations on the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP), which Brussels has been carrying out with Barack Obama, are dead in the water.

And although Mrs Merkel did not mention the billionaire tycoon by name the target of her criticism was clear, coming just weeks after she marked his election by attacking his campaign rhetoric.
