NEW YORK – Peter Kadzik, the assistant attorney general who briefed Congress Monday on the emails discovered in the Anthony Weiner investigation, gave his friend John Podesta, the chairman of Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign, a “heads up” last year on the investigation of Clinton’s handling of classified information, an email released by Wikileaks revealed.
On May 19, 2015, Kadzik wrote Podesta, under the subject line “Heads up”: “There is a HJC [House Judiciary Committee] oversight hearing today where the head of our Civil Division will testify. Likely to get questions on State Department emails.”
The email shows Kadzik went offline from the Department of Justice email system, using his private gmail account to warn Podesta that the Judicial Committee was going to quiz the head of the DOJ Civil Division on Clinton’s private email system.
Kadzik, as head of the DOJ Office of Legislative Affairs, is charged with responding to inquiries from Congress on issues dealing with Department of Justice investigations.
