Now NATO responds to Putin: Military drills on Russia’s doorstep sends warning to Moscow

LARGE scale military drills conducted by NATO forces have come to end in Riga, Latvia, as they prepare for the possibility of clashing with Russian fighters.

Around 500 troops from Lithuania, Estonia, the United States, Germany, the Netherlands and the UK have been demonstrating their combat skills at the Adazi training ground.

The Silver Arrow 2016 exercises involved soldiers recapturing territory occupied by a simulated enemy.

Video footage from the training camp showed troops operating tanks, machine guns and working out combat strategy.

The military presence in the region comes after increased tension over Russia’s military action in Syria.

It also comes in a bid to reassure Baltic states over any Russian aggression in the region.

Mr Putin’s ability wage war was dealt a blow on Monday after a draft report seen by the financial times, showed that Russia’s defence budget could be slashed from £50bn to £37bn.

Former British military commander Colonel Rupert Wieloch recently said he had “no doubt” that Russia had ambitions of invading Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.
