The new bomber division will be based in the Irkutsk and Amur regions and will fly over the Pacific Ocean.

The formation will include Tupolev Tu-95MS strategic missile aircrafts and Tupolev Tu-22M3 long-range bombers, according to Russian media.

A military source said: “The formation of the division is nearly complete. It will comprise several squadrons of long-haul heavy bombers stationed in the Eastern and the Central military districts.”

A dozen strategic and long-range bombers will form part of the division that is set to patrol the Pacific Ocean near Japan, Guam and Hawaii.

The bombers will also deploy at airfields in Belaya, Irkutsk region and Ukrainka, Amur region.

According to military experts this is a clear signal of Russia’s intentions to pivot to Asia, and a serious provocation to the US.
