Norway’s Prime Minister Erna Solberg hit out at the social network, saying it was wrong to delete Aftenposten’s iconic image of a girl fleeing a napalm attack in the Vietnam war – only to have her own post deleted.

She said: “It is highly regrettable that Facebook has removed a record of my Facebook page.

“I hope Facebook will use this opportunity to review its editing policy and takes the responsibility a large company that manages a broad communication platform should take.”

Facebook co-founder Mark Zuckerberg was accused of “abusing his power” after his company deleted the iconic image of a young girl running down the street after sustaining severe burns in a napalm attack during the Vietnam war.

Captured in 1972 by Pulitzer Prize-winner Nick Ut of the Associated Press, the image of screaming children running from a napalm attack shows a naked nine-year-old girl named Kim Phuc at its centre.
