An 81-year-old good Samaritan from Martha’s Vineyard has become one of the latest victims of the failed Nixon-Reagan drug war, after Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) goons, in conjunction with state police and National Guard soldiers, raided his home, assault weapons in hand, over four backyard cannabis plants that he had been growing to make medicine for himself and a few of his friends in need.
Paul Jackson’s labor of love crafting organic, home-brewed cannabis tea has helped many a suffering individual overcome their ailments, including his late wife whose final days as a pancreatic cancer patient suffering through chemotherapy were made a whole lot less excruciating thanks to the medicinal effects of cannabis. And since medical marijuana is legal in the state of Massachusetts, what Jackson was doing for the benefit of himself and his loved ones isn’t even against the law.
But none of this was of any concern to the armed thugs who brazenly descended upon Jackson’s property both from the woods behind his home and from above via a black helicopter to seize and destroy his plants. The DEA-funded “eradication mission,” as it’s being called, had one heartless goal in mind: destroy all the green plants because they’re scary and bad.
“They just come charging through and start cutting it down,” Jackson, a renowned organic gardener who’s earned more than 300 ribbons at the Martha’s Vineyard Agricultural Fair, told the Martha’s Vineyard Times about the jarring experience he endured at the hands of a rogue police state.
“I told them they don’t know what they’re doing, they’re destroying it and it could be used for good purposes. I know because I went through it before.” Speaking directly to a reporter from The Times, Jackson added, “You wrote about it in The Times. I had the article framed, took it out to show them; I said, ‘This is proof of what it does,’ but they didn’t want to hear it.”
