Germany’s vice-chancellor has said the EU could “go down the drain” if Britain is given overly favourable terms upon its exit.
Speaking to ITV’s Good Morning Britain, the outgoing Ukip leader said regardless of what Brexit deal the UK ultimately secures, the EU is finished.
He said: “With or without Brexit, the European Union project is doomed.
“Whether it is in the north of Europe with parties on the right of politics, or in the south of Europe with parties on the left of politics.
“Across the whole continent people are saying ‘Why are our laws being made somewhere else?’”
Mr Farage also called on Theresa May to trigger Article 50 as he cast doubts over whether she can truly deliver Brexit for Britain.
The cabinet will meet on Wednesday at Chequers to discuss how to best make a success of Britain’s exit from the EU.
Mrs May has ordered civil service mandarins, some of whom intent on keeping Britain in a reformed EU, to focus on assisting Brexit negotiations.
