An EU-wide survey of 28,000 people across the bloc found 74 per cent want bureaucrats to do more to ease the flow of migrants into Europe.

Cyprus was most dissatisfied by Brussels’ response to the crisis, with a whopping 91 per cent saying more needed to be done.

The poll also revealed nearly seven out of 10 UK residents believe Eurocrats are doing too little, compared to 74 per cent of Irish people.

UKIP defence spokesman Mike Hookem said the EU “continually fails the people of Europe on many issues, and none more so than the migrant crisis”.

He told Express.co.uk: “Eurocrats are failing to take difficult decisions like turning back the people-smuggling boats crossing the Mediterranean.

“These criminal gangs are making millions out of human suffering. They must be hunted down and put out of business.
