Turkish authorities have refused to name the woman but said she is a sneer leader of a terrorists organisation.

Terror attacks in Turkey are normally claimed by one of two groups – Kurdish separatists or the Islamic State.

Counter-terrorism detectives arrested her as she ate lunch at a popular garden restaurant in the European part of Istanbul.

She was first spotted on CCTV footage and the information was handed to intelligence officers who traced her to the Aksaray district.

Aksaray is home to many hotels and shops but is also regarded as the city’s red light district and is a hub for sex trafficking.

Police said she was in the early stages of planning an attack but released no details about where they believe she may have been hoping to strike.

The suspect was found to be carrying a fake ID and after an initial interrogation at a police station in Istanbul she was transferred to the Adana Province Security office in the south of the country.
