A FIRE has burned through a refugee shelter in Berlin prompting a police hunt for an arsonist amid growing anti-migrant sentiment in the country.

The fire blazed through the refugee shelter in Buch, in Berlin’s northern district of Pankow, in the early hours of this morning.

The inferno tore through several parts of the so-called ‘container building’ – a site reserved for desperate migrants in the country.

Police had to move more than 180 refugees out of the shelter amid growing fears the fire was an intentional anti-refugee arson attack.

The evacuated residents will be rehoused in a local sports hall until their shelter is repaired.

Investigators believe the attack was premeditated arson, according to the police.

The fire was reported to emergency services in the early hours of the morning shortly after 3am.
