The veteran BBC host, speaking on the Andrew Marr show this morning, said that Brexit “could be the first serious rebellion” against the control and supremacy of the EU and trigger an international show of defiance.
The presenter, whose pieces to camera are a key part of his own show, said: “Britain has crossed the most significant political watershed in our lifetime.
“But the European Union faces problems of its own. Euro-scepticism is on the rise. Almost everywhere Pro-EU parties are in retreat.
“Anti-Brussels sentiment is at British levels across north-west Europe.
“In France, the EU is now even less popular than it is in Blighty, causing German officials to fret about the future.”
