Strong M6.2 earthquake rattles Mexico; triggers Alert on Pacific Ocean Buoy

A strong Magnitude 6.2 earthquake has struck in the Pacific Ocean, just off the coast of Mexico, rattling coastal areas, and sending vibrations all the way to Mexico City. The large quake was preceded by a smaller, Magnitude 4.1 fore-shock just 19 minutes earlier, 30 miles south-southwest of San Patricio.

According to the US Geological Survey, the quake was centered 102 km South-Southwest of San Patricio, Mexico at a shallow depth of only 10.2 km.

The force of the quake triggered an “Alert” in an offshore Ocean Tsunami Data Buoy operated by the National Data Buoy Center (NDBC) as seen on the map below:
