In a chilling threat one caller warned “the shrapnel will take children’s heads off”.

It is believed at least 20 schools across the country received bomb threats, including primaries and secondaries.

At one school, repeated calls warned of a bomb on site, while a caller threatened to shoot pupils and detonate a bomb.

It comes after Canterbury Academy was evacuated earlier today after a threat, with more than 240 pupils being pulled from their GCSE English exam.

Moments later Barming Primary School in Maidstone was also evacuated after an anonymous call sparked a bomb scare.

It was initially feared that the calls were isolated to schools in Kent, but it has since emerged a number of schools across the UK have been targetted.
