Boko Haram are believed to be sending militants into Libya to fight alongside ISIS fighters as the vile terrorists stretch their tentacles into northern Africa.

In addition to the alleged allegiance, there are fears ISIS jihadis could push into the Sahel region – a lawless strip of land that stretches across the north of the Sahara desert.

The strategic spread of the Islamic State could then bridge the gap between ISIS in Libya and Boko Haram in northern Nigeria by taking ground in neighbouring Niger or Chad.

The unholy alliance could then use new ground as a springboard to launch wider ranging attacks.

US Deputy Secretary of State Antony Blinken revealed there were “reports” that Boko Haram fighters were going to Libya, where Islamic State has established a large presence.

He said: “We’ve seen that Boko Haram’s ability to communicate has become more effective. They seem to have benefited from assistance from Daesh.”
