America’s fight against the Islamic State terrorist group is far from over, Defense Secretary Ash Carter has warned in a crisis meeting with international military officials in Germany.

His words on Tuesday came as James Clapper, Obama’s intelligence chief, predicted ISIS could stage a Paris-style attack in the US at any time.

The president has insisted America faces less of a threat than its European allies.

However, Carter’s analysis on Tuesday was markedly more bleak, speaking hours after he confirmed a Navy SEAL was killed by an ISIS militant in Iraq.

‘While we have gathered momentum since our ministerial in Brussels, this fight is far from over,’ Carter said in an opening statement in Stuttgart, urging all nations to invest more in fighting ISIS.

‘That point was brought into stark relief by yesterday’s attack on Peshmerga forces in northern Iraq, which unfortunately claimed the life of an American service member.’

Carter identified the SEAL as Navy Petty Officer 1st Class Charles Keating, whose family had confirmed his death on Tuesday.

‘These risks will continue’ as the war goes on, Carter warned.
