ISIS-linked hackers post target list of New Yorkers along with their addresses
Despite not being affiliated with the U.S. government, as many of 3,600 names were added to an ISIS target list

Thousands of ordinary New Yorkers were boggled to discover their names were on an ISIS hit list in recent weeks.
Despite not being affiliated with the U.S. government, as many of 3,600 names were added to an ISIS target list that also includes employees with the State Department and Homeland Security.
The FBI has notified the New Yorkers from all different parts of the city and economic backgrounds that their name is on the list, according to ABC. The names on the list are not being revealed publicly.
‘The FBI routinely notifies individuals and organizations of information collected during the course of an investigation that may be perceived as potentially threatening in nature,’ they said in a statement.
‘Potential threats may relate to individuals, institutions, or organizations, and are shared in order to sensitize potential victims to the observed threat, and to assist them in taking proper steps to ensure their safety,’ they told Fox.
The FBI say they believe that the list is merely a scare tactic, but an ISIS hacker group called the Caliphate Cyber United, sometimes called the Caliphate Cyber Army, has posted the personal information of some of their alleged targets online. Many of the addresses on the list are outdated leading the FBI to believe it’s an old list.
This is not the first time ISIS has created a hit list of names. Last year, an Islamic State-related group posted what it claimed were names, addresses and photos of 100 U.S. military service members and called upon followers to kill them.
