Ted Cruz is to make a sudden attempt to keep his presidential campaign alive by making Carly Fiorina his running mate.
He is to announce the move in Indiana this afternoon – the day after a humiliation in the five north-eastern primaries, which were all won convincingly by Donald Trump.
He promised a ‘major announcement’ at his afternoon rally in Indianapolis, as the candidate tries to set Indiana as the next major battleground and Trump takes a victory lap after his Tuesday night electoral romp.
Sources told Reuters it would be making Fiorina his running mate.
Cruz was back on the campaign trail again Wednesday morning, surrounded by a throng of camera-toting reporters at an Indianapolis pancake house who asked how he would overcome Trump after the New York mogul ran up huge margins and won every county in five states that voted.
New Hampshire television station WMUR reported that failed GOP presidential candidate Carly Fiorina would be the ‘focus’ of the announcement,’ citing Cruz sources.
‘We have an event this afternoon 4 pm at the [state fairgrounds] – we’ll be making a major announcement at 4 pm so I encourage folks to come join us at 4 pm,’ was all Cruz would say.
