A severe magnitude 6.2 earthquake struck off the Pacific coast of Guatemala at 10:11 AM eastern US time today along the Middle America Trench. According to the US Geological Survey (USGS) the quake took place at a depth of 48.4 km.

No word yet about any potential Tsunami or about injuries or damage from the quake.

Today’s quake struck on the east side of the pacific Tectonic Plate, almost exactly opposite of where a Magnitude 6.2 Struck Vanuatu in the far western Pacific yesterday. Also yesterday, three magnitude 6 + quakes jarred southern Japan, with fifteen aftershocks. If the pattern holds, then the US west coast may be struck today as the Pacific Plate continues to rebound from its blow to Asia yesterday.

Folks on the West Coast are advised to be prepared with emergency food, water, first aid supplies and the like in case quakes do, in fact, strike today.
