More than 11 million documents, dubbed the Panama Papers, have been leaked from Panamanian law firm Mossack Fonseca, which provides offshore services.
Mossack Fonseca defended its conduct and said it operates “beyond reproach”. Here is a summary of key findings from the leaked files that show how the rich use offshore tax regimes.
10. Twelve current and former world leaders were among 143 politicians, their families and close associates are shown to have been using offshore tax havens.
9. The leaders in the records include the prime minister of Pakistan, the president of Ukraine, the president of Argentina and the king of Saudi Arabia.
8. Iceland’s Prime Minister Sigmundur Davíð Gunnlaugsson faces calls for his resignation after papers show he failed to declare his stake in an offshore company.
7. The files reveal a suspected billion-dollar money laundering ring involving close associates of Russia’s President Putin.
