The military railgun that fires ‘bullets’ at SIX TIMES the speed of sound: Footage shows weapon reaching immense Mach 6 speeds…(I Want One!)
US firm GA-EMS confirmed successful tests using five projectiles
The railgun exceeded accelerations of 30,000 times the force of gravity
It uses electromagnetic energy to propel a metal projectile at huge speeds
Weapon will be ready for tests on-board a US Navy destroyer by summer

Just when you thought we’d nailed the art of firing chunks of metal at each other at immense speeds, a US weapons firm has shown it can do it faster.
An electromagnetic railgun has been tested firing bullets at Mach 6 – six times the speed of sound.
Designed by San Diego-based General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems (GA-EMS), the Blitzer railgun uses electromagnets to send its projectiles hurtling off at thousands of miles per hour.
In tests carried out last week, GA-EMS confirmed that five test projectiles were fired at accelerations of more than 30,000 times the force of gravity.
Anchors on Fox News’ Tech Take analysing the military tech gave a verdict of ‘really, really, cool’.
