Donald Trump publicly embraced Dr. Ben Carson on Friday, accepting his former rival’s endorsement and saying that the two men have apologized to each other for the slings and arrows they exchanged for months during an acrimonious presidential season.
‘Yeah. Yeah,’ he said during a morning press conference when DailyMail.com asked if mutual apologies had been offered.
‘It’s politics. it is politics. It’s tough stuff. It’s a tough business,’ he said.
Trump described the quiet ‘dignity’ of his former foil as a quality he sought for his campaign.
‘I started going after Ben’ when he leapfrogged me in the Iowa polls’, Trump recalled. ‘I was really impressed with the way he fought back, because he fought back with silence and strength.’
Trump famously attacked Carson last year for describing himself in a book as having a ‘pathological’ temper, likening that condition to a child molester’s.
And just two weeks ago Carson was previewing a Super Tuesday battle by predicting that the American people would ultimately not be driven by ‘anger and fear’ into Trump’s waiting arms.
That would be ‘a very very bad mistake,’ he told reporters in Houston on February 28, adding that voters are not ‘quite that dense.’
