Daredevil explorers used a drone to capture remarkable pictures of fiery molten magma inside Mount Nyiragongo in Virunga National Park, in Congo, Africa.

And the striking pictures have revealed how rising lava levels in the 600-metre deep lake mean the magma mountain could spew molten rock and toxic fumes onto surrounding villages at any time.

Photographer Bradley Ambrose flew the drone over the 1.2-mile wide crater of the active volcano in Congo, believed to hold the world’s biggest visible lava lake.

He and five others called the 12,000 feet fire mountain to launch the drone, risking their lives.

Aside from the recognised risk of an eruption at any time, the team risked poisoning from the high levels of carbon monoxide given off.

Many people, particularly children, have perished as a result of the fumes even when an eruption is not taking place.
