Former Cold War Hawk Urges Russia-US Thaw for ‘The Sake of Our Children’

In the wake of the coming ceasefire in Syria, former US Senator Sam Nunn, who himself claimed to be a hawk during the Cold War, has urged both Russia and the US to avoid the dangers “we went through then, for the sake of our children and grandchildren”.
There are certain things that the US and Russia should do together, the former politician said, even though the ties between the two countries have fallen apart since the Ukrainian crisis.
“It wouldn’t take a treaty, it wouldn’t take a long time, it would be a statement, a joint commitment that both countries are going to work together to prevent ISIL (Daesh) or any other violent extremist organization from getting their hand on nuclear materials or radiological materials or a dirty bomb or weapons-grade nuclear materials or any other weapons of mass destruction,” he said in an interview with Echo Moskvy (Echo of Moscow) radio station.
