A unique interreligious architecture project is expected to open in Berlin in 2016. Jews, Christians and Muslims want to build a common house of prayer, uniting a synagogue, a church and a mosque under the same roof.

The interfaith building is called the House of One and is expected to be built in the center of the German capital, on Petriplatz, this year. The construction costs are estimated to reach 43.5 million euros, with the project being mainly financed through a public crowdfunding campaign.

The idea of the project was first proposed in 2014 by the German religious association “Bet- und Lehrhaus Petriplatz Berlin”.

The House of One is designed to serve as a house of prayer and an educational facility, where people of various religions will be able to meet each another and engage in dialogue. The new institution is also planning to organize interdisciplinary classes about religions, their history and their current role in Berlin and in the country, in general.
