Scotland Yard will announce the increase in armed patrols tomorrow in the wake of 130 people being killed by ISIS in the French capital.

This morning Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe revealed he is meeting with armed officers every two weeks to maintain morale after he raised concerns marksmen should have greater protection in the case of a fatal shooting.

He said a “significant” announcement will be made in the next 24 hours.

He said: “We are determined to increase the number of firearms officers. In fact I believe over the next 24 hours I’ll be able to make a significant announcement about that.”

There are currently around 2,000 firearms officers in the Metropolitan Police but the head of armed policing on the National Police Chiefs’ Council said London would face “difficulty” coping with a terror attack under the current numbers.
