Two suspected ISIS militants have been arrested after they were accused of plotting a suicide bomb attack on New Year’s Eve celebrations in the Turkish capital, Ankara.

Officials said the pair, whose nationalities are unknown, were planning to strike an area in the centre of the city, which is due to be packed with revellers tomorrow night.

According to state-run Turkish media, the pair had been planning to stage an attack in Ankara’s main Kizilay Sqaure and had already carried out surveillance on potential targets.

The suspects are accused of planning to strike at separate spots – one outside a big shopping mall and one in a street packed with pubs.

The governor’s office confirmed police confiscated one suicide bomb vest, one bomb mechanism with ball bearings and one rucksack with bomb making materials.
