Top Islamist Leader Reportedly Killed in Airstrike Near Damascus

The leader of the Jaysh al-Islam radical Islamist group was killed in an airstrike near Damascus, local media reports.

Zahran Alloush was killed in aerial raid that targeted his group’s HQ, according to the sources in Northern Ghouta.

​​Jaysh al-Islam is an Islamist group formed by a merger of several opposition groups in 2013. Its primary base of operations is the Damascus neighborhoods and Eastern Ghouta. The group is part of the Islamic Front. The group cooperated and conducted joint operations with the Al-Nusra Front. Its leader, Zahran Alloush, was viewed as one of the most prominent Islamist leaders.
