It’s bound to be a Merry Christmas in the Donald Trump household this year, as the billionaire cheerfully celebrates a new national poll that shows him zooming past his Republican opponents in the race for the White House.

Trump commands 39 percent of the Republican primary vote in the CNN poll – more than the combined percentage of Ted Cruz, Ben Carson and Marco Rubio.

Together, Trump and Cruz wield a powerful 57 percent of the vote, leaving the 11 other candidates still in the race to fight over their scraps.

A Quinnipiac University poll released on Tuesday shows roughly the same pot for candidates not named Trump and Cruz to fight over.

In that poll Trump was leading with 28 percent of the vote to Cruz’s 24 percent for a joint total of 52 percent of the vote.

The CNN poll released today put Cruz at 18 percent to Trump’s 39, with Carson and Rubio at 10 percent each. Nine remaining candidates were unable to muster more than five percent each, and in the case of three, a single digit of support.

With first contest in 40 days, in Iowa on Feb. 1, candidates need the equivalent of a political earthquake to shake up the race and change their fate in the battle for the White House.

Trump, a former reality TV show host with deep pockets, has been out front in every CNN poll since July, and his momentum shows no signs of stopping.
