A severed pig’s head was left on the doorstep of a mosque in Philadelphia, police confirm.
Surveillance footage shows the carcass being thrown onto the sidewalk outside Al Aqsa Islamic Society from a passing car on Sunday night.
It is the latest in a spate of attacks on Muslims and mosques in America in the wake of the Islamic State’s attacks on Paris.
Just last week, the same mosque received a voicemail message about ‘what you did in Paris’, referring to Muslims collectively.
Police have launched an investigation into the attack and Philadelphia’s Mayor-elect Jim Kenney has slammed the incident as ‘bigotry that… has no place in Philadelphia’.
The caretaker at a Philadelphia mosque Nabil Khalil said he found the head on the sidewalk when he arrived at the mosque for morning prayer at around 6am on Monday.
‘I don’t know if they want to treat us like pigs or we look like pigs or act like pigs,’ Khalil said in an interview with NBC.
