THE Government has “given up” on trying to stem the flow of migrants pouring into Britain because the economy needs them, a Home Office insider claimed today.

Official figures have revealed that Britain needs more than ONE MILLION migrants to arrive in the UK within the next five years if Chancellor George Osborne is to achieve his budget surplus of £10 billion by 2020.
The Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR), the economic watchdog, said this spare cash could only be achieved through high levels of net migration, way above the Government’s “tens of thousands” target highlighted during the last two elections.
New Home Office figures have revealed that in the last 12 months alone, there were 636,000 new arrivals into the UK and the net migration figure of 336,000 is the biggest yet.
The increase is equivalent to an extra 920 people arriving in the UK every day.
The statistics also reveal how 50,000 migrants flocked to the UK from Bulgaria and Romania alone.
Nick Timothy, who worked for Home Secretary Theresa May, said the fact net migration was increasing was evidence ministers had given up trying to control the numbers of people making the UK their home.
Official migration figures are used by the OBR to forecast how many people will be employed and contributing to the economy every year.
The Office for National Statistics predicts net migration will reach 1.1million over the next five years and experts say the anticipated one million rise in the number of people in work will be entirely due to rising immigration.
