Retiring House Speaker John Boehner will get a not-so-subtle reminder of why he’s leaving Washington this week, as dozens of hard-right fiscal conservatives are lining up to oppose a landmark budget deal announced Tuesday with President Obama.

Although the agreement is virtually assured of passage in both the House – and, probably next week, in the Senate – Boehner faces one last revolt from tea party-aligned members angry at him for compromising with the White House one last time.

It will also be a rude welcome for Boehner’s successor, all but certain to be Wisconsin congressman Paul Ryan.

House Republicans are expected to nominate Ryan as speaker on Wednesday. The full House holds a vote on Thursday.

And Boehner, the Ohio congressman who was forced into early retirement by the same group of rowdy conservatives, will leave Capitol Hill on Thursday or Friday after 24 years.
