WASHINGTON — Metro service on the green and yellow lines was suspended on what was already a busy traffic day due to the arrival of Pope Francis.

Green line service was suspended between U Street and Fort Totten and all yellow line service begins and ends at Mt. Vernon Square. Metro says service was restored around 11 p.m. Columbia Heights and Georgia Avenue stations were also reopened.

Service was suspended for nearly five hours.

Metro says the issue is due to a third rail power outage.
