California’s farmers have been lured by an affordable water recycling program in which the water used for their crops costs about $33 per square foot. Compare this to the $1,500 per square foot cost of freshwater, and it’s easy to see why farmers, whose crops have been hard hit by the state’s severe drought, gravitate towards this cheaper, recycled alternative.(1)
However, there’s a catch, and it’s one that’s been unleashing chemical violence on the state’s residents for years: The recycled water comes from fracking wells which has been found to be riddled with everything from the industrial solvent, acetone, to benzene, a carcinogen. Consider that over 45,000 acres of farmland have been sprayed with this cocktail of cancer-causing poisons, and one can’t help but consider the long-term health problems that will undoubtedly affect all Americans who’ve had access to California’s food supply.(1)
As we reported on August 1, 2015, fracking water has been poisoning California’s crops for quite some time, and there is no telling how long this deception has been going on for.
