A screener who worked at the federal government’s Transportation Security Administration (TSA) for 13 years has been fired after being charged with sexually assaulting women at LaGuardia Airport in New York City.

Maxie Oquendo, 40, had reportedly been luring women into bathrooms at the airport under the guise of performing “pat down” screenings in search of weapons. Instead, he was using the ruse as an opportunity to fondle women’s private parts.

Reports indicate that Oquendo had been using TSA-approved language and protocols to take advantage of female travelers, telling them that he needed to “scan” their bodies and luggage for security purposes. He would then lift up their shirts, unzip their pants, and fondle them.

“She’s clear,” Oquendo would say after molesting his victims. “She doesn’t have any weapons or knives.”
