Baltimore police are having such a tough time fighting violent crime in the city they’ve called in the feds to help, and 10 agents from five different agencies will soon be joining the local force for a period of two months.
Fox News reported two special agents each from the FBI, the DEA, Secret Service, U.S. Marshals Service and the ATF will assist local police with crime investigations for the next 60 days. The agents will help first in those cases where local police have identified suspects, but failed to apprehend due to lack of evidence.
The city’s homicide rate has skyrocketed in recent weeks. In May alone, the city recorded 42 homicides, and then in July, 45. The spike stems from rioting in the city since the death of Freddie Gray, a black man who died after being injured while in police custody.
