As a looming U.S. Supreme Court decision could potentially redefine marriage within the confines of the federal government, more than a few Christian leaders are making their Bible-based objections known by promising such social activism will not take root in their churches.
Among the latest to make such a pledge is Rev. Ronnie Floyd, who heads the Southern Baptist Convention. During the organization’s recent annual meeting, Floyd showed Christ-like love and compassion for those with homosexual urges; however, he said the church does such individuals no favors by endorsing their behavior.
“America,” he said, “we stand believing that marriage is the uniting of one man and one woman in a covenant commitment for a lifetime.”
According to Fox News’ Todd Starnes, Floyd’s defense of biblical marriage drew “thunderous applause and standing ovations” from the thousands in attendance.
He pointed to “some evangelicals” who “may be bowing down to the deception of the inclusiveness of same-sex marriage,” going on to affirm the Southern Baptist denomination will not be following that trend.
