“If the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do?”
Strong’s definition of ‘destroyed’: to pull down or in pieces, break, destroy:—beat down, break (down, through), destroy, overthrow, pluck down, pull down, ruin, throw down, × utterly.
Gesenius’ definition: to pull down cities, walls, houses; to destroy a people and hence a kingdom.
Further, Gesenius gives the examples of just and unjust kings.
“A king by justice establisheth the land, but he who loveth gifts (i.e. the king when he is unjust), destroys it,” pulls it down . . . meaning corrupting manners. A kingdom is compared to a building, which is established by a just king, but is subverted and destroyed by one who is unjust.
