Under the hashtag #TakeUsWithYouScotland Twitter users have been responding to the idea of a ‘New Scotland’ which takes in Northern towns and cities
Maybe it’s not such a bad idea after all: as one correspondent North of Border tweeted ‘the weather’s chilly but the whisky is hot!’.
Thousands of people have now signed a petition backing what must surely be one of the more left-field constitutional suggestions to follow the SNP election surge: the idea that the North of England should become part of Scotland.
Under the hashtag #TakeUsWithYouScotland Twitter users have been responding, mostly positively, to the idea of a ‘New Scotland’, which would see Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds, Newcastle and every other northern town and city ruled from Edinburgh instead of Westminster.
