The next few hours will be “crucial” for a British nurse left in a critical condition in hospital after contracting Ebola while volunteering in Sierra Leone, medics warned today.

Pauline Cafferkey, 39, was diagnosed with the deadly virus on her return to Glasgow from the West African country and transferred to Royal Free Hospital in north London.

Today, the specialist hospital said the nurse remains in a critical condition and is fighting for her life after deteriorating yesterday.

Experts revealed the next few hours will be “crucial” for the volunteer, Sky News reported.

Doctors have spent the last 12 hours closely monitoring Ms Cafferkey’s vital signs including blood pressure, pulse and the oxygen saturation levels in her lungs.
