Ebola is now confirmed in New York City. I’ve just finished watching the press conference with Cuomo, de Blasio and Dr. Mary Travi Bassett, and what I’m hearing from these people is extremely irresponsible to public safety.

For starters, every official in the press conference repeated over and over again that there was near-zero risk of anyone contracting Ebola from Dr. Spencer, even though he visited bowling alleys, rode in an Uber car and traveled in the NYC subway system just hours before being confirmed positive with Ebola. Yet as Dr. Bassett explained, once Dr. Spencer had a fever, he was “removed from his home in an orderly manner” by health workers who were “wearing full protective gear.”

Why is full protective gear necessary if Dr. Spencer isn’t contagious as they claim? Logically, you can’t have it both ways: either Dr. Spencer is contagious and the gear is necessary, or he’s not contagious and there’s no reason to wear the gear. But if there’s no reason to wear the gear, then why were health workers wearing the gear?

Essentially, NYC officials think we are all just so incredibly stupid that we won’t notice this glaring contradiction.
