Accuweather, Oct. 5, 2014 at 10:14p ET (emphasis added): Deadly Typhoon Phanfone Lashes Japan… Phanfone is no longer a super typhoon, the status it briefly achieved on Saturday… but remains a dangerous and deadly typhoon… Widespread rain totals of 200 to 250 mm (8 to 10 inches) are also expected from eastern Shikoku to the Honshu prefecture of Fukushima, triggering widespread and life-threatening flash flooding.

AP, Oct 6, 2014: Powerful Typhoon Phanfone was on course to hit the capital and surrounding areas… In Shizuoka Prefecture, a total of 267,000 households, or 667,000 people, were urged to evacuate to safer ground as of 9:30 a.m., the prefectural government said… It was packing winds of up to 180 kph, the Japan Meteorological Agency said.

NHK, Oct. 5, 2014: A strong typhoon is causing massive damage in Japan… one person is dead and 10 others are injured. 3 people remain missing… roofs were blown off houses.
