Kuching on edge as Ebola rumours spread

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 15 — Rumours that two cases of the deadly Ebola virus have been detected in Kuching has set an uneasy air over the capital of Sarawak. – See more at:

According to The Borneo Post, rumours were “spreading like wildfire” that not one, but two cases of the epidemic that has claimed thousands of lives this year, may have been discovered there.

Citing an unnamed source, the news portal said that the two cases involved two African students who were admitted after seeking medical attention for cough and fever last night.

Sarawak’s Assistant Minister of Public Health Datuk Dr Jerip Susil told the news portal that rumours of Ebola were yet to be verified.

“There is no lab confirmation yet,” he was quoted as saying in the report.

Earlier today, Malay Mail Online reported Sarawak health officials as confirming that they were monitoring one suspected case of Ebola infection in the state.

The patient is believed to be an African male suffering from a fever.
