ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – UNM Hospital in Albuquerque is reporting its first confirmed case this season of the H1N1 flu known as swine flu.
A hospital spokesperson says one person was admitted with swine flu Thursday.
This is the same strain that caused a pandemic in 2009. The New Mexico Department of Health has not issued any alerts yet.
Flu season typically peaks in late January or early February.
The latest report by NMDOH for the week ending Dec. 21 says the incidence of flu in the state this season remains low. Of the 11,779 patient visits reported by health care providers that week 2.6 percent were for influenza-like illnesses.
